Is Ecocide a Crime? - Ecocentric - TIME.com
To read an article which discusses whether it should be a crime for companies (and individuals?) to
cause the mass destruction of ecosystems on our planet, please click on the link above this sentence. For your information, two dictionary definitions of the word and one legal definition of the word"ecocide" are these:
(1)"Heedless or deliberate destruction of the natural environment, as by pollutants or an act of war."source:
(2) "The destruction of large areas of the natural environment especially as a result of deliberate human action." (source:http://www.merriam-webster.com/dictionary/ecocide
(3)Legal defintion: "The extensive destruction, damage to or loss of ecosystem(s) of a given territory, whether by human agency or by other causes, to such an extent that peaceful enjoyment by the inhabitants of that territory has been severely diminished."
It is my personal belief that a company or individual or group of individuals who destroy some of the natural environment of this planet should be charged with committing a criminal offense. If individuals or employees of companies think they can do anything they want, especially in order to gain profit or control of some of the natural resources of this planet, without regard to any destruction of the natural environment or without regard to other life on this planet, this is morally and ethically unacceptable! This kind of circumstance is happening all too often, every day in our World, and it has been shown that such behavior can cause serious short-term and long-term effects to the Planet and the life on our home!!
