2010 FIDE Women's World Chess Championship:round 1 results, round 2 pairings

The FIDE Women's World Chess Championship has begun in Hatay, Turkey. This WC will run fro, December 2nd to 25th. It is a 64-player knockout tournament, with two-game mini-matches qualifying a player to the next round. The first round of matches has been completed and there were some major upsets in round 1. Betul Cemre Yildiz (2225), playing for Turkey, defeated European champion GM Pia Cramling (2526) of Sweden. Cramling lost the second game of the match on time,failing to play her 40th move before her flag fell. Other upsets include:

Chinese WGM Zhang Xiaomen (2339), who beat Armenian IM Lilit Mkrtchian (2479) in the rapid game playoff after the two had tied in regulation.

Russian Baira Kovanova (2380) crushed her fellow countrywoman Natalia Pogonina (2472), by a score of 2-0 in their match.
