2009 World Chess Cup Khanty Mansiysk:final results from round 1

Here are all of the results from the first round of the 209 World Chess Cup,which is now completed.There were some very surprising upsets in the first round of play. Firstly, GM Sergei Movesian lost to Yu Yangyi of China.Movesian was the sixteen-highest-rated player in the event (with an elo of  2718.He lost to the 113- th seeded Yu Yangyi of China,who had an elo of 2527 entering the event. GM Bu, Xiangzhi who entered
the tournament with an elo of 2682 (31st-highest-rated player) lost to Yannick Pellitier of Switzerland (who is the 98th seed in the tournament (with an elo of 2589).- Li, Chao (elo 2596 the 95th-seed,) defeated the higher rated Gabriel Sargassian of Armenia (elo 2676-34th seed) in their match. GM Gilberto Milos (elo 2603,the 92nd seed of Brazil), upset the higher-rated GM Zahar Efimenko, of the Ukraine (elo 2668, the 37th-seeded player). Other upsets include  Chinese GM Weiqi Zhou's victory over Israel's Emil Sutovsky
Zhou entered the tournament with an elo of 2603 (which made him the 91 seed), and Sutovsky was the
38 seed with an elo of 2666. Venezula's Eduardo Eturrizaga, (the 89th seed with an elo of  2605), upset
the fortieth seed Sergei Tiviakov (elo 2664), GM Alexander Shabalov of the United States (who was seeded
85th, with an elo of 2606), upset Vladimir Baklan of the Ukraine (elo 2655,44th seed), in a match which
lasted 8 games! 80th-seeded  Mateusz Bartel, of Poland upset 49th-seeded Boris Grachev of Russia,. 78th seeded  GM Sergey Fedorchuk of the Ukraine defeated  51st seeded Ivan Sokolov. Other upsets : Sandipan over Kobalia, Akobian defeated Tregubov in a marathon (final match score: 9-7).
