10th European Individual Women's Championship

The 10th European Women's Chess Championship begins on Saturday in St. Petersberg, Russia. There are 174 players competing in this event, and here are the top-rated players:

Anna Muzychuk, the top-seeded player was born on February 28, 1990 in Lviv Soviet Union. In 2004 she became a citizen of Slovenia and is currently the strongest woman player in that country. According to an interview she did for chessbase, (see: http://www.chessbase.com/newsdetail.asp?newsid=1572), her parents taught her to play chess , they being professional coaches. Anna states, " When I was two years old I could put the beginning position on the board, and at three I could play chess with all the chess rules. When I was five I took part in my first chess tournament (championship of our sport school) and won the second place." She admits "to
practising chess about six to eight hours a day! Anna states, "Dynamic chess is what I want to have in every position."

Muzychuk goes into the European Women's Individual Chess Championship with an elo of 2540, which makes her the strongest Woman player in Slovenia, and the fifth-strongest player in Slovenia and the sixth-strongest woman chess player in the world (496th strongest player in the world).
